The following horses have won the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup in the same year- Tranquil Star (1942), Rising Fast (1954), Tobin Bronze (1967) and Northerly (2002).

The following horses all ran second in two consecutive Cox Plates - Whittier (1923-24), Hall Mark (1934-35), Winfreux (1965-66), Filante (1996-97) and Defier (2002-03).

Only one horse in post World War 2 history has been able to win the Epsom and the Cox Plate in the same year and that was the stallion Noholme in 1959. Nightmarch in 1929 and Chatham in 1932 achieved the same feat.
Only one jockey - Brent Thomson - has won three consecutive runnings of the race. He won in 1977 on Family of Man, 1978 on So Called and the ill-fated Dulcify in 1979.
The Cox Plate has had many distance changes in it's long history. From the inaugural running in 1922 to up and including 1942 the race was run over 9.5 furlongs (1900 metres). From 1943 inclusive to 1971 it was run over 1.25 miles (2012 metres). In 1972, 1973 and 1974 it was "about 2000 metres" - and then it changed to 2050 metres between 1975 and 1985. The present distance of 2040 metres has remained the same since 1986 (inclusive).
Seventeen 3YO colts or geldings have won the Cox Plate.
Five females have cumulatively won eight Cox Plates. Tranquil Star (2), Flight (2), Surround (1), Dane Ripper (1) and Sunline (2).
The only horse to win the Caulfield Cup - Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup in the same year was Rising Fast in 1954.
Four horses have won the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate in the same year - Tranquil Star (1942), Rising Fast (1954), Tobin Bronze (1967) and Northerly (2002).
Jockey Darby Munro holds the record of riding the most number of winners in a Cox Plate. He rode five winners - Rogilla (1933), Young Idea (1937), Mosaic (1939), Beau Vite (1941) and Hydrogen in 1952.
Four 3YO's have won the Caulfield Guineas and the Cox Plate in the same year - Star Affair (1965), Rajah Sahib (1968), Surround (1976) and Red Anchor (1984).
The Cox Plate has been a great race for top class gallopers to win more than once. The great Kingston Town won three runnings of the race in consecutive years of 1980-81-82. Ten other horses have won the race twice. They are Phar Lap (1930-31), Young Idea (1936-37), Beau Vite (1940-41), Tranquil Star (1942 and 1944), Flight (1945-46), Hydrogen (1952-53), Tobin Bronze (1966-67), Sunline (1999 and 2000), Northerly (2001-2002) and Fields of Omagh (2003 and 2006).
Kingston Town won three Cox Plates, but oddly enough had a different jockey on each occasion. Malcolm Johnston rode the horse in 1980, Ron Quinton in 1981 and Peter Cook in 1982.
The slowest ever Cox Plate was run in 1975 when Fury's Order ran 2.20.4 in a bog. The quickest 2040 metres running took place in 1998 when Might and Power ran a (still standing) race and track record of 2.3.54.
The Cox Plate was run in two divisions in 1946 - Flight won one division and Leonard the other.
