DOOMBEN BETTING RING REPORT....with Lindsay Gallagher [ More Items ]
Lindsay is betting $4 about the chances of Coffs Harbour galloper Natural Destiny, but he'd bet $4.40 early and the Naturalism stallion eventually ran $3.80. Lindsay's tremendous 40% first deposit bonus for amounts up to $1,000 for new punting clients, only has a few spots left and it will be full, so interested people need to be quick.

The Summer Stakes at Doomben last Saturday saw an impressive win to the Coffs Harbour visitor Natural Destiny. As noted in this website’s preview Friday night, the 15 alley was his problem, but the statement “if Natural Destiny can get in two off the fence and can’t win, then he is overrated” proved spot in – as he got in two wide, outside the leader and won.

The heavily backed Rasmussen, which I stated Friday night “I don’t have any great opinion of”, flopped, confirming my long held belief that I’ve been telling Sectional Times clients that he’s no star.

Gold Edition had enough class to get home at long odds-on in Race 4. The runner up Sequential Charm’s ability was advised to Sectional Times clients when she ran unplaced as a Maiden galloper in town at 16-1 on 29/7/06. Interestingly, I notice Sequential Charm is part owned by B. Crosby. Is that Bing Crosby? If it is, why doesn’t it say the “late B.Crosby”, as he’d be about 106 now if he hasn’t crossed over!

Three outright favourites won on the eight race program – Gold Edition ($1.30), Natural Destiny ($3.80) and Master Denis ($3.80), so who won the battle in the betting ring – bookies or punters?

Lindsay Gallagher reports:-

Race 1 - Time And Dandy (1st - $10), Sovereign Dream (2nd - $2.40)

                   and Experience (3rd - $26).

It was a winning race the first. Sovereign Dream was $2.60 into $2.50, but there wasn’t a lot of money for him.

Bold Reason was backed by the runners early, firming from $12 into $8, but he was the first horse backed, so he shortened quickly as a result.

Silver Halo had some admirers, but it wasn’t a big betting race and it was a small winning race when Time And Dandy ran over the top of them late.

Race 2 - Fort ‘N’ Won (1st - $3.50), Signal (2nd - $12) and

                     So Step In Line (3rd - $9).

The favourite here was Ancient Impulse, but there was no money for her at all and she eased in betting.

Fort ‘N’ Won got out to $4.40 and then was well backed into $3.80. There were several bets of $1,000 and $2,000 on him along the rails.

My Centurion was probably the best backed runner. I laid him to lose $10,000 and $20,000 at a $10 quote.

But when Fort ‘N’ Won fought on and won by a short head, we lost on the race!

Race 3 - Pride of Power (1st - $12), Key Bar Night (2nd - $2.40) and

                     San Rico (3rd - $4.40).

Well this was an unknown race with unraced 2YO’s, with only a few of them having previously started.

The query runner was Key Bar Night, because she is by Anabaa out of Huntington Girl, so they’d have paid a good bit of money for her - and the money arrived for her too. She was about $3.60 in and you could lay her well around the $3 quote on the way in. She started $2.40, but I was $2.70 at the jump, which was well above her S/P quote. I thought she had her chance and ran 2nd. She is probably the horse to follow out of the race, just on breeding, because if they have the bloodlines, they will improve but if they haven’t, they don’t get any better.

Race 4 - Gold Edition (1st - $1.30), Sequential Charm (2nd - $12) and

                      Lasoron (3rd - $10).

$1.40 was given about Gold Edition and a couple of bookies laid $10,000 cash bets on her at that price and with good general public money, she got backed into $1.30 and the race was a procession - as it should have been.

There was no money of note for any other runner.

Race 5 - Stylish Qualo (1st - $5.50), Mister De Bali (2nd - $51) and

                     Waterford Glory (3rd - $101).

Stylish Qualo was well backed early in betting when $8 was bet and he firmed into about $5.50.

Alternate was always solid around $4.20, but there was no big money for him.

I did lay Rhymenoreason to lose $10,000 in one bet and I was keen to lay this horse.

I also laid Shoved Out to lose $10,000 in one bet.

There was no money here for Lukes Turn from the bad alley and he was wide the trip.

It wasn’t a big betting race, but most bookmakers would lose on the race following the early move for Stylish Qualo.

Race 6 - Diamondsondinside (1st - $4.80), Rash Promise  (2nd - $3.30) and

                     Finder Page (3rd - $7).

The best backed runner here was Game On. I laid one bet on the phone on him to lose $15,000.

There was no money for Rash Promise and he got out to $3.30.

Flying Nikita was specked at $25, as was My Chinese King at $12.

Diamondsondinside was only specked on the way out, so it wasn’t a big betting race and you could have won or lost on the race really.

Race 7 - Natural Destiny (1st - $3.80), Hard To Catch (2nd - $11) and

                      Tornado Alley (3rd - $31).

I laid Impaler at a $10 quote to lose $20,000.

Natural Destiny got out to $4.40 and then the phones rang. Naturally it would be shorter in Sydney, because of the Sydney connection with the horse. The Sydney bookies always have the Sydney horses way under the right odds then they back them back in the Brisbane ring. The runner got the phone call and backed it back up here and it was well backed. There were several bets to win $10,000 and $5,000 on the way in and he started about $3.80.

Rasmussen was extremely well backed. He was about $6 into $4.60 and I laid him to lose $15,000 in one bet. He was disappointing really.

To me the run of the race had to be Tornado Alley, because he was three wide the trip, with no cover and battled on for third. Personally I thought he’d have led in the race and if he had have led, he may have won.

The win of Natural Destiny sealed my destiny for a losing day.

Race 8 - Master Denis (1st - $3.20), Masai Pride (2nd - $4.60) and

                     Our Private Jet (3rd - $7.50).

I think I said last report when this horse started, first up, what a good run it was and he just knocked up then. But there was no money for him then. There was money for him last Saturday however - and they improve - these horses of Bailey’s, when they are backed. I laid several bets on Master Denis to lose $5,000 and $10,000 at $3.50.

Masai Pride, well, it’s probably got the most ability of any horse running around actually, but he misses the start all the time and he drifted in the betting here.

I laid Aim So High to lose $20,000 in one bet and $10,000 in another bet.

But the favourite won the race and that meant the last two favourites won the last two races and it was a losing day.

In respect of last week’s launch of his website www.thevipclub.com.au Lindsay said he’s been “inundated with memberships and it’s been quite surprising really. I mean it was a low-key launch and the response has been fantastic and several emails of congratulations have come in, on what we are trying to achieve. Quite a few people have opened up accounts and there are only a few spots left for readers to join the punters part of the club and get the 40% bonus on their initial deposit. But of course people don’t have to open an account to get all the information such as the Friday night’s tips. They just join up through my website to become a member for free”, Lindsay said.

He also added that any important betting information from mid-week meetings he fields on at Eagle Farm, Doomben and Ipswich would go out to members in the “Friday Whisper” which is emailed direct to clients each Friday (it would be a bit Irish if the “Friday Whisper” went out Monday’s!)

“We did a good promotion at Doomben last Saturday and gave away in excess of $2,000 worth of free bets to customers. If they had a bet with me, I gave them the opportunity to come back and have a free bet with me and that was all received quite well, but it’s all part of promotion. If you launch something new like my website, you have to put something back into it” Lindsay commented.
