I noticed in last Sundays paper that Bart Cummings is quoted as saying that Taikun is his next “Group 1 winner”.
Sectional Times clients have had that valuable information since his emphatic 7/2/04 victory. He’s bolted in at his two subsequent starts. The price wasn’t big, but there was no stress involved in either win.
What a tragedy he’s a gelding. By Anabaa out of a Last Tycoon mare he’d have been a sensational sire. Once again just be careful on a real wet track with his horse – the other day (28/2/04) when he won on the slow he led and was in Race 1 so had first use of the track. That Last Tycoon actor won’t help on a really wet track whilst most Anabaa’s handle it. So I’d still say Taikun is 50/50 to handle a wet track even though everyone will think he’s 100/0.
The Sectional Times clients report from 7/2/04 racing re Taikun read:-
“In Sydney, TAIKUN is a Group horse of the future for sure and certain.
He hasn't been let go yet and ran 1.2.94 home in 33.46. He was $5
into $4.20 late, so I think that Bart had a bet! The horse didn't
pull and carry on stupidly like it did first up and it was having only
its 4th race start. With a bit more maturity and age it could win
any race Cummings set it for. You'd love to see it as a 3YO in this
years Doomben 10,000 - getting a run would be the hard part. That win
Saturday was extraordinary - most people missed the win watching
Skittles looking for a run - I tipped Skittles to the Horsewinners
people - Skittles would not have beaten Taikun if it cut across the
infield on the day. Just keep an eye on the trail of Taikun - it's
in the right hands and is very good.”
