PORTLAND PLAYER SERVICE FEE SLASHED TO $1500...by Helen Robinson [ More Items ]
Portland Player could lay claims to being one of the best bred stallions standing in Australia today. Currently standing in Queensland his service has just been dropped to $1,500.

Not very often do you find Studs offering an end of season sale on their service fees, however, the owners of Portland Player, who is currently standing at Colourwell Stud at Eagleby in Queensland, have realised the potential of “last minute servings” and have drastically reduced the price of Portland Player’s service fee for the rest of 2006.

For the remainder of the 2006 breeding season, Portland Player’s Service Fee has been slashed to $1500 (incl. GST).

PEDIGREE

Portland Player’s sire, Theatrical (Champion Turf Horse USA 1987), won 10 races including the Hollywood Breeder’s Cup Turf Stakes (Gp1), Belmont Turf Classic Stks (Gp1), Aqueduct Man O’War Stks (Gp1), Curragh Irish Sweeps Derby (Gp1). Sire of 59 stakes winners including Melbourne Cup winner, Media Puzzle.

And it doesn’t stop there. Portland Player’s dam side reads as a who’s who of racing.

His first dam, Spirit of Kingston, needs no introduction which, as a half-sister to Rose of Kingston and Prince of Kingston, had 14 foals with 13 to race including 7 winners (Coup de Grace, Tarheel Boy, Coup, Portland Player – all stakeswinners).

And it doesn’t stop there.

Second Dam, Kingston Rose (sister to Pilgarlic and 3/4 sister in blood to Rashomon), had 7 named foals, all to race with 5 winners including stakeswinners, Rose of Kingston, Prince of Kingston, Spirit of Kingston.

PERFORMANCE

The Macquarie Dictionary explains the meaning of performance as: the way in which something reacts under certain conditions or fulfils the purpose for which it was intended.

And perform outstandingly on the track he did. His memorable win for trainer Lee Freedman and jockey Greg Hall over Alfa and Ebony Grosve in the 1996 VRC Derby was undoubtedly his career highlight.

PROGENY

They say that the mark of a good stallion is not only by his family and his race performance, but also by the progeny he produces. Portland Player’s progeny have proved that they can run and win not only in town and at provincial level but at Stakes level as well.
