From a very early age, horses have played an integral part in the life of  Peta Wheatley. Originally working with Quarter Horses and Showjumpers, numerous Awards came her way at National level.

Peta's initial involvement with the Thoroughbred Industry started in 1984 when she was a Trackwork Rider and then an Apprentice Jockey at the Gold Coast Turf Club. Her passion for horses and the excitement and challenge of the Racing Industry convinced her to turn her hand to training, culminating in her being currently the holder of a No.2 Trainer's Licence.

Peta Wheatley is one of the consistently successful Gold Coast trainers whose dedicated approach to her chosen profession have earned her instant acclaim from the many people from all walks of life, who entrust their valuable Thoroughbreds to her care. Through affordable SHARE AVAILABILITY in precocious Yearlings, selected by Peta and purchased through the Honda Magic Millions Sale and the Magic Millions Super QRIS Sale, she has been able to introduce many new participants into the Racing Industry. A price cross section of Bloodstock is purchased to ensure all budgets are catered for.

Terjule, a classy winner of 3 of his 7 starts (including being Group
placed) is one of the promising youngsters prepared by Peta Wheatley.

The same SHARE AVAILABILITY exists for potential clients wanting a horse who is ready to race when Peta purchases quality tried Thoroughbreds. She welcomes and personally attends to all enquiries on current share availability. Additionally, in her endeavours to display the many facets of her chosen vocation to all interested parties, and to discuss training costs, share costs etc., to prospective clients, Peta and her staff have an undercover display near the Sales Ring at all major Magic Millions Sales.

Being based in Queensland's, and indeed Australia's tourism capital - The Gold Coast - Peta's intrastate and interstate owners are able to watch their horses run via Sky Channel coverage of all Gold Coast and Brisbane meetings, should business or family commitments preclude them attending. Videos of races are made available to her overseas owners.

With stables situated in close proximity to the Gold Coast Turf Club Racetrack and its many and varied training tracks, Peta, with the valuable assistance of her full time staff, has 15 to 20 horses continuously in work at any given time.

As a special adjunct for her owners, Peta's clients' horses are offered exclusivity and special rates to SPELL on her picturesque 100 acre rural property at Canungra on the Gold Coast Hinterland. This is an ideal opportunity for the horses to enjoy their break away from the rigours of the racetrack, in a relaxed and tranquil environment, whilst allowing Peta to monitor the horses daily, and allowing for them to be bought back into work at the optimum time.

Numerous winners have emerged from the Peta Wheatley stable during her training career. Winners in Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast along with winning doubles, have helped springboard her promising career. Her horses parade well in the enclosure and race consistently.  The performances of her two year olds have been a credit to her. The efforts of youngsters Terjule, Touch of Freedom, Mighty Cool and Pearl's Our Girl, ensure that her owners have the opportunity of earning their share of some of the wonderful Super QRIS and Sales Bonus monies available for Queensland's Two and Three Year Olds. Peta's more seasoned horses, of the calibre of Brighter Scene, Le Phantom, Tanners Twist and Corker, bear testament to her ability to get her horses to train on and race with consistency beyond their Two Year Old years.

The Peta Wheatley trained Le Phantom returns to scale after winning
the Ken Irvine Memorial Handicap at the Gold Coast.

It is refreshing to see a young person who has enough faith in her own ability and judgment - and who is not frightened by a 7 day a week commitment - take her profession into the public arena and vigorously market it. This, allied with the performances of her horses on the racetrack, seem certain recipes for a successful training career. In the last two Racing Seasons (1997-1999), Peta has   finished in the Top 7 of the overall Gold Coast Trainers Premiership ladder. She was the only female trainer to finish in the Top 10 on the trainer's list.
