Bowman premiership blitz continues at Farm

Brenton Avdulla’s chances of having his jockeys’ premiership lead when he returns from suspension have all but evaporated.

Avdulla, who has made the running in the Sydney’s jockey title since the start of the year, is clinging on against a barrage of late-season winners from Hugh Bowman.

Bowman continued to make an inroads into Avdulla’s lead with two winners at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

And on form, the jockey who has the pick of the rides from premier trainer Chris Waller can expect to be in front at some stage next week.

That’s because Avdulla will sit out midweek racing as well as next Saturday’s Rosehill meeting after being suspended at Canterbury on Wednesday.

It took three races before Bowman cut Avdulla’s lead to 2-1/2 wins when Sayed ($2.70) ran favourite and won the staying race.

He teamed up with another Waller runner to bridge the gap again when Liapari came from last to beat stablemate So Willie.

Avdulla was narrowly beaten in the first race but he was off the pace for the rest of the meeting.
