Tom Sadler suspended for one month

Tom Sadler was suspended for 1 month at Flemington.

Jockey Tom Sadler has been suspended for one month after being found guilty of improper riding aboard Urban Ruler in the Silver Bowl Series Final at Flemington.

Sadler was hit with two charges stemming from Saturday’s 1600m race in which Urban Ruler finished second as the $4.20 favourite.

He pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge and was banned for nine meetings for shifting in near the 1400m mark causing a horse to be steadied and stewards deemed that incident in the low range.

But they hit Sadler with an improper riding charge, saying the jockey rode his mount in at the 800m mark, forcing Ben Allen on Kaptive Hero in onto the heels of Deadly Choices, causing Kaptive Hero to have to check for several strides.

Sadler reserved his plea.

“In our view your riding was dangerous and improper,” acting chief steward Robert Cram said.

Sadler can serve the two suspensions concurrently and will return on August 8.
