Race 1

5 – 3 – 1 – 4

5 Performer looked the part at the official trials running good time and showing race sense. He relaxed enough for a horse having his first pouting and then quickened when asked and from an ideal gate he will be hard to toss. The biggest threat will come from 3 Hiemal who ran 0.2 seconds quicker and after given a little wake up he looked sharp in winning his trial. From the inside draw he should enjoy a nice trail here.

Race 2

6 – 13 – 2 – 5

6 Witherspoon looked smart at the official trials when quicken nicely and did it in quick time running 53.25 for the 900m hit out. The wide barrier won’t make things easy but she looks clearly the girl to beat here and will only need a touch of luck and she should be too good.

Race 3

2 – 3 – 7 – 6

2 Sambro was good last start when hitting the line hard against the older horses and now with two runs under his belt he should be ready to fire. Last time at the mile he was very good after working early to finish fifth in the group 1 JJ Atkins. 3 Hypnotist didn’t have much luck at Newcastle last start in the Spring Stakes but can turn things around here especially having drawn the gun barrier one. There looks a lack of depth here and he has some good form heading into this. 6 Langley and 7 Ataraxia look clearly the next two.

Race 4

Wow I found this a tricky race with a few out of form types so I ended back at the top of the page with 1 Sense Of Occasion. What a preparation he had during the autumn and winter and he really only need to be three quarters back to that and he should be hard to beat. His first up run was a fair hit out and now back against this lot he must be respected. I have nothing between 4 Mackintosh, 6 Spectroscope and 10 Perfect Rhyme in what looks an even race.

Race 5

3 – 1 – 2 – 8

1 Champagne Cuddles was outstanding last week in the Golden Rose charging home for second but she’s drawn the outside and the quick back up is unknown. 2 Alizee is drawn second from the outside and will be giving a start but has been set for this race. I ended up with 3 One More Honey for the run she is going to get from barrier two and I think she will relish the mile.

Race 6

1 – 10 – 2 – 9

1 Chautauqua was outstanding first up and now up to the 1200m and a bit more pressure I think the grey flash can run them down and stamp his authority on the Everest. If the grey flash is going to get beat I think it will be the 10 In Her Time who from barrier one will get the perfect tag on the back of the speed. She took a huge leap during the winter when a certainty beaten in the Tatt’s Tiara and that was off a gallant second in the Stradbroke. Her recent trials have been very smart.

Race 7

11 – 1 – 10 – 9

I had almost given up on 11 Comin’ Through but he has turned me around with two strong winning performances and both here over the 1400m. First up he was just so so in winning but then he worked early in the Bill Ritchie before digging deep to hold the chasers at bay. I’ve got the feeling he only does what he need to and with Joe Moreira on board and only 51kg he just may do it again. 1 Happy Clapper is low flying and a repeat of his last start second to Winx will have him in the finish. 10 Egg Tart has been set for this and if she runs she must be given serious thought.

9 – 10 – 6 – 1

 

9 Life Less Ordinary was only average last start when having every chance but I am sticking solid with the step up to 2400m and the big drop in weight to 51kg giving me the confidence he can run over them and snare his group one. 10 Foundry hasn’t won past 1400m but his two runs this time have been full of merit and he looks as though he is ready this preparation to stand up.

10 – 4 – 12 – 8

10 I Thought So has always had raps on him and following a gelding operation its time he lived up to it. First up nothing went right but he still grinded away to finish fourth. With strong speed here with Sweet Serendipity and Tango Rain expected to run along he should get the chance to stalk and get into a rhythm. 4 Tango Rain is his big danger.
