On the turf for mid-week Geelong with rail out 9m and likely to be pretty good to firm. Been enthusiastic about more meetings than this but not surprisingly Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig v Weir much of the tale of the day (and this is Weiry’s least profitable track). Very tough.

BEST BET: Race 3 #9 ROYALE EFFORT

BEST VALUE: Race 4 #5 SHAMAR Race 5#1 ASTRO CASTRO

Race 1: 10-7-6-4

Surely this is the race for RIMRAAM, now Heavenly Thought comes out and back onto the turf. Did it tough last time. Should be odds-on now and should win. After that it’s THE BANANA STAND (blinkers again) the place and ZAPPING first-up.

Suggested: If you just – RIMRAAM

Race 2: 8-9-7-6

Tricky but going PATRIOT resuming gelded and with winkers over the well trialled REGIS COMMAND. MR SO AND SO showed ability first prep and trialled well for this without blinkers.

Suggested: PATRIOT with the experience and gear changes.

Race 3: 9-3-10-2

It’s the big stables again but leaning HHD with ROYALE EFFORT going to the grass first time this prep over SCALLOP first-up. CANDY GIRL has trialled well enough to suggest goes ok and MAXIMUS ran above market expectations on debut.

Suggested: Looks like a race for ROYALE EFFORT

Race 4: 5-2-1-3

Small field, all but #6 can win and value in SHAMAR on quickish back-up from tougher company. Like that. SIA got too far back resuming and was questioned. 1 CASARES was strong on debut but gets pace pressure OUR CROWN WITNESS.

Suggested: Good value SHAMAR in intriguing contest.

Race 5: 3-1-7-2.

Still recall brilliant 100-1 Flemington debut ASTRO CASTRO – though not repeated since. Beat Badajoz/Ability/Runson doing so. On home track now. Respect but liked winning (heavy) debut MASTERING when ran to market expectations.

Suggested: Gambling at the value ASTRO CASTRO.

Race 6: 7-1-11-5

Looks good race for solid form of SORENATA ahead of well-placed SKULDUGGERY in this grade. CASINO BLITZ gets a run and well in this while CITRUS WISH will hit line well.

Suggested: SORENATA looks safe win/each-way bet option.

Race 7: 6-7-4-1

Plenty of winning hopes here but going NINA’S BALLERINA resuming in a suitable BM 64 (won first-up last prep).But clearly chances to many of these including g MIALIGN back on to firmer ground, EL QUESTRO going through the grades, and SWEET PERFUME honest with claim all in real mix.

Suggested: Tough task, most have a chance but happy to have something fresh NINA’SBALLERINA.

Race 8: 1-4-8-6

Might be a bit heart in mouth stuff for punters but LAUGHING HEIR is best horse here and has the most in form jockey in D Lane. SWEET TASTE is honest but limited, MISS ADEQUATE did enough wide first-up.

SUGGESTED: Like LAUGHING HEIR.

Race 9: 10-7-5-2

Tricky end. FASTBROOK was good resuming, has awkward gate but certainly good enough. ANOTHER COLDIE is ready third run up for Weir. RIB EYE was great off decent break.

Suggested: Wide in quaddie.
