Caulfield preview & best bets- Snowy

CAULFIELD

Saturday December 16.

Bit tricky with rail out 12m returning to the track first time since Cup day (Oct 21) – when it was 6m. Probably as far out on a Saturday as punters will find, so keep eye on what’s happening, but normally can run on wide when out here.

BEST BET:       Race 4        #6 VINLAND

BEST VALUE:    Race 3    # 6 MONTASER

Race 1: 3-11-7-13

Best backed here has been the pedigree page standout ENNIS HILL (Fastnet Rock-Hips Don’t lie) but this marriage had been a costly failure to date (apart from Lake Geneva) – it started with a $900k first foal to Mark Kavanagh to win a Tatura Mdn, Geelong BM 64 and now a Toowoomba C4 winner. Since a $1m Aquanita full relation unsighted. This is originally knocked down for $1.1k but now raced by breeders so respect betting and recent talent shown Cranbourne trial. Not knocking FAKE with on pace experience and win on Gosford debut and switched straight to Melbourne stable. Thought THE FRONTIER jumped out well. VIA REGINA (stablemate of Ennis Hill) has shown ability, likewise ADVANCING. Race well worth watching from a Magic Milllions – Blue Diamond perspective, it’s that time of the year for some promising youngsters to appear.

SUGGESTED: Totally tricky. Something on the raced – FAKE.

Race 2: 5-11-4-6

Hardly a Saturday – more mid-week quality here – not surprising being a BM64 so many varied form lines are tried to marry up. Ok going DON’T BLUSH BABY who has made the original graduation that eludes many. WRITTEN IN STONE the value, no luck last time 1100m and ready for 12mm now. TOOSBUY ran into a lower level star on debut, and can measure up. SACRED SHAM comes through same race as Written in Stone and clear chance but many have hope.

SUGGESTED: Tough race – something Don’t Blush Baby.

Race 3: 6-3-11-4

Liked the debut win of MONTASER – but it is that sort of race. Shopping early – $13 offered. Try half that now. Inside gate might not have helped HOLY FREEZE (blinkers now a big tick) at Sandown. FOLK SONG bounces off on pace maiden win but looks sharp. MACTIER has had some chances this campaign but deserves another one.

SUGGESTED: Like the value MONTASER.

Race 4: 6-10-311

This is VINLAND’S race especially following the scratching this morning of Domesticated and Whistler Bowl. Went into Sandown Guineas a run short then bounced back to win decisively last time. On the up. ATONE (1.75lens from VINLAND) last time is respected.

SUGGESTED: VINLAND just wins.

Race 5: 1-9-5-6

Can’t go past MRS GARDENIA, almost faultless form this campaign., not badly treated after claim. Makes own luck. EUREKA STREET will bounce off fitter here on firmer track after “fair” return Sandown (heavy). SNITZELWOOD gets back onto a firm track here after return “failure”. GUIZOThad to chase the in-form Knight’s Watch last time and didn’t shirk task. SHENANDOAH has a value hope.

SUGGESTED: Stay with MRS GARDENIA.

Race 6: 6-12-9-10

Been a fan of ETAH JAMES and the delightful progression through the grades. Form around her might not read well but she’s a winner and doing what she has to do. BINT EL BEDU is the other lightly raced improver and trip suits. SERENADE THE STARS was a beaten favourite behind it last time without an excuse for mine but Williams takes over.

SUGGESTED: Sticking with ETAH JAMES.

Race 7: 8-10-92

Free running OZI CHOICE has found winning form and without having to do too much work to cross and lead here, is the one to beat. URBAN RULER failed on a heavy last time but better respected back on the firm now. Reckon THELBURG is the improver at odds.

SUGGESTED: Even but go with OZI CHOICE.

Race 8: 2-1-6-8

CRYSTAL DREAMER runs favourite (and hard to beat) but tackled by 3 Weir runners here and loved the turn of THERMAL CURRENT at Sandown behind unbeatable heavy tracker Jungle Edge. Like the odds over the favourite. GOT THE GOSS has found winning form and OBERLAND isn’t far away from it.

SUGGESTED: Value THERMAL CURRENT.

Race 9: 13-3-12-11

Very difficult close to the day. Leaning 13 CREATIVITY (fitter than some rivals). BRUGAL REWARD was impressive Ballarat, now in that sort of form that is good enough for here. IF NOT NOW WHEN is one of the resuming brigade, won a trial to show he was “back” and well in after claim.CLUB TROPICANA is a no-nonsense trier picking up form. This suits.

SUGGESTED: CRETIVITY will run over the odds.

QUADDIE:

6-12-9-10

8-109

1-2-6

13-3-12-11
