ROSEHILL GARDENS MOUNTING YARD REPORT……by Matthew Howard

30/01/17

Racing at Rosehill on Saturday and the training performance by Gai Waterhouse with Scarlet Rain was the standout of the week end. Scarlet Rain had been of the scene for 315 days since Golden Slipper day last year and was also coming back from a throat operation. As per Matthew Howard’s mounting yard report wasn’t 100% screwed down and has improvement to come but of the back of 3 trials Gai had her on the mark to win first despite being attacked a long way out.

And talking of training performances Peter Gelagotis has done a fantastic job with Malaguerra since taking over from hall of fame trainer Lee Freedman. He was on a hiding to nothing when taking the horse on being a Group 1 winner of the BTC Cup in his second last start for Freedman. Since being with Gelagotis the horse has had four starts for 2 wins, one being the G1 Darley Classic, a 2ndand unplaced run in the G1 Winterbottom Stakes. At the time it created a storm on twitter with someone saying something along the lines of moving from Freedman to Gelagotis is like going from a Ferrari to a Mini!!! Well the Mini roared again on the week end with Malaguerra blowing away a Group 2 field and in the process equalling Freedman’s former star mare Miss Andretti’s track record in the process.

Below is Matthew Howard’s weekly just racing mounting yard live report which you can also read live Matthew’s thoughts on his Facebook page each Saturday prior to the race to assist with backing winners each Saturday:
