Heavy track for Doomben Cup

Stewards expect Brisbane’s Doomben Cup meeting will go ahead on a heavy track on Saturday.

Doomben missed much of the heavy rain which soaked parts of south east Queensland on Friday but the track still recorded close to 25mm.

Senior steward Dan Aurisch and Doomben track manager Jim Roberts walked the circuit on Friday afternoon and decided to downgrade the rating to a heavy (9).

“It is a genuine heavy and there has been no drying weather. The rain is expected to stay around to early tomorrow morning and the forecast is for showers tomorrow,” Aurisch said.

“There seems little doubt the track will be heavy.”

He said two horses would gallop on the track early on Saturday morning and a final decision made on the meeting then.

But unless there was a dramatic overnight escalation in the weather the meeting would go ahead.
