Darren Beadman has been granted a licence to train for Godolphin although there is still no official word that Australian head trainer John O’Shea has left the organisation.

Former champion jockey Beadman, who retired after suffering serious injuries in a fall in Hong Kong, has been O’Shea’s right-hand man at Godolphin for the past three years.

Racing NSW granted Beadman the licence on Friday.

“An application from Darren Beadman for a Metropolitan Trainers licence has been approved by Racing NSW and will commence from Sunday 7 May 2017,” Racing NSW said.

“Mr Beadman will take carriage of the Godolphin stable from that date.”

Horses racing on Saturday will still be in O’Shea’s name with the transfer to take effect a day later.

Racing NSW said it did not know if the arrangement was permanent with James Cummings widely tipped to replace O’Shea.

News of O’Shea’s departure surfaced last Saturday with one corporate bookmaker posting a market with Cummings at $9 and taking it down some hours later when he firmed to favouritism.
