The initial representative from Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman’s skilled team of three-year-old fillies is preparing for her opening outing in the autumn series at Caulfield.
Alpha Sofie will make her racing return for the first time since September in the Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.
This former Queensland filly triumphed twice at Eagle Farm before delivering an instant impression for Moody and Coleman with a victory at Moonee Valley, leading straight to a spell.
Coleman noted that the stable is keenly anticipating her comeback alongside three-year-old filly companions Sheza Alibi and Ole Dancer.
Alpha Sofie has delighted Moody and Coleman by bulking up and growing more mature during her absence from the track.
“I think she’s improved off her last preparation,” Coleman said.
“Her work and her jump-outs leading into this first-up run have been really impressive.
“She won very comfortably at her only run for us and it was a good form race as well.
“We’re very excited and the break did her well. She seems more mature and stronger physically this time as well.”
Alpha Sofie dominated the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley, putting away Custom, Salty Pearl and yardmate Ole Dancer.
During the later spring period, Ole Dancer secured the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield, with Sheza Alibi scoring in Melbourne Cup week prior to claiming the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).
“She (Alpha Sofie) is the first one we’re unleashing and next week we’ll have Sheza Alibi and Ole Dancer back at the races, all being well,” Coleman said.
“Sheza Alibi goes to the Desirable Stakes while Ole Dancer will go to the fillies and mares Frances Tressady Stakes.”
Both races cover 1400m at Flemington. Fans eager for Alpha Sofie’s first-up effort in the Peter Le Grand Stakes can find competitive prices across the Australian betting sites.
