Trainer Clinton McDonald is planning a short but strategic three-race autumn campaign for Angel Capital, aiming to take advantage of dry tracks. The colt’s first test will be the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield this Saturday.
McDonald is eyeing the Group 1 Futurity Stakes for Angel Capital, though a jump-out is more likely before the horse’s main focus, the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 1. A successful run in the Guineas would also secure a spot in the Group 1 All-Star Mile (1600m) on March 8.
After finishing sixth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) last October, McDonald believes the horse has benefitted from a solid spell and is now in top shape. Ben Melham will ride on Saturday, and McDonald is confident Angel Capital can handle the 1600m distances ahead.
