Henry Dwyer is upbeat about Asfoora’s European campaign despite her unplaced finish in the Group 2 King George Stakes (1005m) at Goodwood.
The mare finished seventh behind $15 winner Jm Jungle on soft ground, in what was her second run in England this prep.
Ridden by Oisin Murphy, Asfoora settled near the back before charging home along the far-side rail, only to tire late and finish 2¼ lengths from the winner.
“It was a good run, but she probably just got a bit bogged down in the ground,” Dwyer said.
“Oisin said she felt great and didn’t get beaten by fitness. It is very hard to make up ground today.”
Asfoora was runner-up in last year’s edition of the same race.
She will now target the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes (1005m) at York on August 23, where Dwyer is hopeful of firmer conditions.
Future options include Ireland’s Group 1 The Flying Five or the Prix de l’Abbaye in France.
