Autumn Glow extended her perfect record with a gritty victory in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1100m) at Randwick, passing her first test on heavy ground.
Trainer Chris Waller considered scratching the $1.50 favourite due to the testing conditions but was rewarded for rolling the dice as the mare surged late under James McDonald.
Momentarily blocked for a run, the four-year-old switched inside and powered home for a half-length win over Gangsta Granny, with Hi Dubai third.
“There were a few unknowns with her … once she came back to the inside and got a bit of fresh air, it was good to see her finish off,” Waller said.
Her connections remain undecided whether she is best suited as a sprinter or miler, with Waller suggesting the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) as her next step.
“My gut tells me 1600 metres is going to be perfect … I just think the Epsom Handicap is there for her,” he said.
