The line between Spring and Autumn continues to blur, with several of Australia’s leading gallopers set to trial at Randwick on Thursday.
High-profile runners including Via Sistina, Sir Delius, Autumn Glow and Aeliana will make their first public appearances of the new campaign on the Kensington track.
Autumn Glow, regarded by many as the most exciting horse in training, will contest the opening 850-metre heat alongside stablemate Wodeton, Flight Stakes winner Apocalyptic and Turnbull Stakes winner Sir Delius.
James McDonald will partner Autumn Glow and later ride Via Sistina in the third heat over the same distance.
That trial will also feature stablemates Aeliana and Lindermann, along with Golden Slipper winner Marhoona.
While interest surrounds Chris Waller’s strong team, attention will also focus on Sir Delius, who missed the Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate after failing veterinary scans in the Spring.
Although Racing Victoria’s embargo remains, it does not automatically apply in New South Wales.
“He’s going to the trials on Thursday,” co-trainer Adrian Bott said.
“He won’t be asked much, he’s just going for a quiet sort of trial.
“He’ll be out on a few occasions before we see him step out to the races, sort of fitting in line with what we saw from him last prep.
“But he seems to be back in good order.”
