Trainer Jason Warren is targeting Brisbane Winter Carnival races for Benedetta after her run in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick on April 19.
Benedetta claimed her first elite-level victory last year in Adelaide’s The Goodwood, and Warren believes the 1400m distance and Randwick’s big track will suit her. “The way she hit the line the other day, I don’t think the distance will be a problem,” he said.
Benedetta’s second placing in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley eight days ago wasn’t ideal due to track conditions, but Warren is confident she has recovered well.
After the All Aged Stakes, Benedetta is likely to trial before heading to Brisbane for the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) and Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm. A potential start in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) could also be on the cards.
Benedetta is currently a $26 chance for the All Aged Stakes, with the market headed by Briasa, Autumn Glow, and Oakleigh Plate (1100m) winner Jimmysstar at $6. Warren considered The Quokka (1200m) in Perth but opted to focus on local group one races. “The money is better and you have those races in your own backyard,” he said.
