The minor placegetters from the Big Dance could back up in Saturday’s $2 million Five Diamonds at Rosehill, with Ciaron Maher paying up for both Vivy Air and Lugh.
The pair filled the placings behind stablemate Gringotts in Tuesday’s feature, and assistant trainer Jo Gerard-Dubord said both would be monitored before a final decision.
Vivy Air, who won the Big Dance Wild Card at Randwick two starts ago, finished runner-up in the race for the second straight year.
“She is tough,” Gerard-Dubord said.
“She is very laidback, she has a good constitution and is a good ‘doer’. The 1800 metres will only suit her, and mares in form, there is nothing like it.”
Lugh, who led bravely in the Big Dance (1600m), has returned impressively after a long injury layoff.
“He had to go forward and do a bit of work, and he was very tough,” Gerard-Dubord said.
In-form Queenslander Transatlantic headlines the 14-horse field, joined by international runner Bullet Point from the William Haggas stable, to be ridden by Cieren Fallon.
