Black On Beauty returns to Sydney under new trainer Widdup

Black On Beauty is back in Sydney for the first time in over two years, now under the care of Brad Widdup.

The Zoustar mare began her career with John O’Shea before notching four wins and stakes-level placings for Tony Gollan in Queensland, including a close fourth in the Nudgee Stakes (1200m) last December.

Now with Widdup, she lines up in Saturday’s ATC Thank You Trainers Handicap (1100m) at Randwick following a fifth-place effort in the Bright Shadow Stakes (1110m) in May.

“(Owners) B K Racing have always had her and she is a lovely mare,” Widdup said.

“They just wanted to give her a crack down here before they made a decision about her future.”

Rising seven, a city win would enhance her residual value.

While a wide barrier raises some concerns, Widdup says she’s impressed in her short time at Hawkesbury.

“She has trialled up well and she looks to have good ability,” he said.

Widdup recently secured his first Hawkesbury trainers’ title with a winning double last Sunday.
