Blake Shinn in stewards’ inquiry

Jockey Blake Shinn has found himself on the wrong side of stewards inquiring into tactics in a race at Rosehill.

Several jockeys were questioned after Saturday’s benchmark 71 handicap (1400m), which was won by Bull Market over Poetic Charmer, with Shinn’s mount Star Sensation third.

Shinn took exception to being quizzed by deputy chief steward Philip Dingwall about his options early in the race.

“That’s why I’ve ridden 1700 winners. How many have you ridden Mr Dingwall?” Shinn said.

Chief steward Marc Van Gestel moved to gain control of the situation, saying several other riders were also being questioned.

“We’re looking into Blake’s ride in the early stages where he could have elected to take the sit behind the leaders rather than press the pace,” Van Gestel said.

“We are also questioning Andrew Adkins (Burden Of Proof) in respect to his tactics when allowing the winner (Bull Market) to cross his mount in the early stages and get a run one off the fence with some cover.

“We also had a chat to Rachel King about her ride.

“We want to look further into Blake Shinn and Andrew Adkins’ rides but we are also looking at the race in general.”

Stewards have adjourned the inquiry.
