G1 Blue Diamond Stakes start on the cards for Miss Roseiano

Peter Gelagotis and the connections of Miss Roseiano are expected to pay a late entry fee to run in Melbourne’s premier two-year-old race at Caulfield.

After a debut win in the filly’s division of the Blue Diamond Preview before running second in the Blue Diamond Prelude last Saturday, the $55,000 late entry for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 26 is almost assured.

Gelagotis said he had been conservative in his training of the daughter of Exceed And Excel, adding he can give the screw a quarter turn to have the filly at her peak for the Blue Diamond.

He said Miss Roseiano had performed well when a three-quarter length second to Revolutionary Miss last Saturday when ridden by Jordan Childs and would have no problems with the extra 100m.

“I’ve erred on the conservative side with her and now that I’ve had that experience with her and the two runs and what I’ve had to do with her after each run, I’m very confident about going into the big one,” Gelagotis told RSN.

“Jordy reported again, even though that horse went past her, she actually kept tracking through the line for a strong 200 or 300 metres and said he had a job to get her to pull up.

“She was holding a good gallop through the line.”

Miss Roseiano sits on the fifth line of betting at $11 with TAB for the 2022 Blue Diamond with Jacquinot ($5.50) heading the market from Lofty Strike ($6.50), Sebonack ($7) and Revolutionary Miss ($8).

Gelagotis said he would not swap Miss Roseiano for any other Blue Diamond runner.

“Looking at the times, everything says we can press forward confidently knowing we are in the mix somewhere in the top half of the field,” Gelagotis said.

“I wouldn’t swap her for anything.

“I have a massive respect for a couple of horses that have come out of those races on Saturday, but she’s a trier and gives her all and that’s all you can ask.”
