Trainer Tim Pike’s hot run continued as Border Control stretched his remarkable winning streak with victory in the $40,000 Tabtouch Broome Sprint (1300m).
The eight-year-old, a former Sydney galloper, had already claimed five straight wins at Port Hedland, including the Richardson Sprint, before his latest success.
After missing the start, the $3.20 favourite surged home to beat Make Your Point by 1½ lengths, thanks to a perfectly timed ride from last season’s Australian Provincial Champion Jockey, Natasha Faithfull.
“He’s an absolute machine… a perfect horse,” Pike said, praising Faithfull’s “ten out of ten” performance.
Faithfull admitted she was confident early.
“I was travelling pretty strongly at the 600m… the leader rolled off and we got a nice run along the fence,” she said.
Pike plans to spell Border Control before targeting Albany races, possibly following the path Espirito took after winning last year’s Broome Sprint.
His Port Hedland Cup winner, Reginald, is expected to run in the Broome Cup on Saturday.
