Trainer Adrian Bott is contemplating whether the Golden Gift winner Revengeance will make his return in The Rosebud, with a final decision to be made following Tuesday’s trackwork. Alternatively, the colt might have another barrier trial before his official comeback.
The promising two-year-old is set to be nominated for Saturday’s Listed feature at Rosehill Gardens, but his final acceptance will depend on his fitness assessment after his gallop during the week.
“He’ll be nominated, but it’s whether he runs there or whether we lean towards a trial and go to the San Domenico Stakes as a kick off,” Bott commented. “We will probably make a call on Tuesday morning before acceptances. We’ll see the nominations, and get a gauge off his work there on Tuesday.”
Bott added, “He’s come back well. Either way, he’ll be better suited once he gets up to 1400 and a mile. He’s going to be that style of horse this ‘prep’, but he will try to head towards a Golden Rose.”
Revengeance, who finished third in the Breeders’ Plate on debut last October, secured victory in the Golden Gift at his second start and was initially considered a contender for the Golden Slipper. However, surgical intervention for bone chips in a knee subsequently ruled him out of the autumn racing season.
Having completed two trials in preparation for his return, Revengeance will either race at Rosehill or participate in another Randwick trial this Friday, with a resumption in the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) on August 29 if he bypasses the former.
Stablemate Eviction Notice, who was the runner-up in the Silver Slipper Stakes, is also slated for entry into The Rosebud (1100m).
Eviction Notice has demonstrated consistent form with placings in two winter return runs, suggesting he possesses a fitness advantage heading into the three-year-old contest.
“Eviction Notice might be a lighter weight chance in the race. He would have the advantage of being fit as he’s had a couple of runs,” Bott stated.
