James Cummings is skipping Melbourne’s Group One races this weekend to focus on the return of star colt Broadsiding at Rosehill.
The Golden Rose winner and Cox Plate third placegetter is set to resume in Saturday’s Hobartville Stakes (1400m), and with Broadsiding’s future as a key member of the Darley stallion roster, Cummings is prioritising him.
“I’ll stay in Sydney despite having Group Ones in Melbourne. He’s a very important horse to stay on top of,” Cummings said. “I’m really confident he’s come back well, but race day will be the ultimate test.”
The three-year-old colt will face rivals like Public Attention and Linebacker, who have the advantage of more race fitness after their one-two finish in the Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m).
Cummings confirmed the Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 8 is Broadsiding’s next target, marking an important step in his autumn campaign. Following that, the Rosehill Guineas (2000m), George Ryder Stakes (1500m), Doncaster Mile (1600m), and All Aged Stakes (1400m) are potential targets.
“We’re dealing with a versatile horse,” said Cummings, who has won the Hobartville Stakes twice in the past seven years with Anamoe (2022) and Kementari (2018).
