Just over a year since Tom Charlton officially joined John O’Shea in partnership, the training duo is looking to finish their first full season on a high.
Their first runner, Bartolf, won at Scone on July 2 last year, and success has continued ever since.
The stable has tallied 35 city wins at a strike rate above 15 per cent, with Group 1 victories from Schwarz in the William Reid Stakes (1200m), Linebacker in the Randwick Guineas (1600m), and Maison Louis in the Queensland Derby (2400m).
Charlton, who has worked with O’Shea for over six years, says the transition has been rewarding.
“It wasn’t a massive change but it is one I have thoroughly enjoyed and I’m very lucky,” he said.
The team could saddle up to five runners at Randwick, including Getafix, an equal $2.50 favourite for the TAB Handicap (1400m), pending a scratching.
“He and Linebacker were probably our two picks,” Charlton said.
Captain Amelia also runs and Charlton believes she’s capable of breaking through with better luck in transit.
