Chilly Girl poised to challenge rivals in Furious Stakes

The upcoming Furious Stakes is shaping up to be an exciting contest between the winner of the Rosebud, Chilly Girl, and the heroine of the Silver Shadow Stakes, Pembrey. This clash is set to further define the emerging form lines of the new-season three-year-old fillies.

Both fillies have established themselves early in the spring racing season. Chilly Girl demonstrated her tenacity by overcoming Blue Door in the Rosebud (1100m), while Pembrey displayed impressive sustained speed to comfortably defeat her rivals in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m).

These two talented fillies lead a field of ten for the second event in the Princess Series. They have a significant opportunity to validate their initial strong performances against a competitive line-up that includes the Reisling Stakes victor Chayan, the former Perth-based filly Striking Alibi, and Bangkok Hottie, who finished second in the Silver Shadow Stakes.

Chilly Girl’s co-trainer, Sterling Alexiou, reported that the filly has recovered exceptionally well from her first-up run, especially considering it was her initial appearance since January and only the second race of her career.

“Even though she’d had a really good grounding, she was first-up after quite some time, and she really had to dig deep,” Alexiou stated.

“She bounced through it incredibly well. She nearly could have backed up in the Silver Shadow.”

“She’ll take her place in the Furious and we expect her to run really well, then she’ll go on to the Tea Rose (Stakes),” he added.

The form from the Rosebud has been further strengthened, with Blue Door subsequently finishing second to the Golden Slipper champion Guest House in the San Domenico Stakes (1200m) at Randwick last Saturday.

Chilly Girl benefits from an advantageous draw in barrier three, while Pembrey will start from gate seven, and the resuming Chayan will jump from the furthest outside position.

Tim Clark is set to continue his partnership with the Rosebud winner. Alexiou confirmed that Chilly Girl has maintained her progress.

“She has trained on well. It’s going to be a pretty strong race, but we feel she’s right up to those better fillies,” he commented.

The Furious Stakes presents a compelling betting proposition, with punters considering their options at the leading Australian betting sites.
