Chilly Girl stamped herself as a serious autumn contender with a tough all-the-way victory in the Widden Stakes at Rosehill.
The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained filly absorbed pressure from the outset and still found enough to repel late challengers.
By dual stakes winner I Got Chills, Chilly Girl shook off favourite Miss Scandal early in the straight before digging deep to deny Miss Chanel.
She scored by a neck, stopping the clock in 1:03.82.
That time was quicker than Hidrix’s 1:04.03 when winning the Canonbury Stakes (1100m) earlier on the program.
“I don’t think she could have done anymore,” Alexiou said.
“That was really impressive. I was hoping she’d get it a bit softer than that but ‘J Mac’ (jockey James McDonald on Miss Scandal) pressed the button on coming out of the gates and applied quite a bit of pressure throughout.
“She was good enough and seasoned enough to kick away and hold a bit of a margin late. I’m really happy to see her do that at her first start.”
Alexiou said professionalism was Chilly Girl’s greatest strength.
“She’s bombproof. You wouldn’t think she is a two-year-old filly having her first start at her home track. She is a little gem,” he said.
Chilly Girl is now a $11 chance in Golden Slipper (1200m) betting with betting companies.
