Jockey Harry Coffey knows Jennivamoose faces a tougher path as she aims for higher honours this spring, but her latest win at Moonee Valley suggests she deserves her chance.
The Ciaron Maher-trained mare made it back-to-back Valley victories by taking out Saturday’s Simpson Construction Handicap (2500m), her third win from her past four starts.
Coffey compared her development to High Emocean, who placed in the 2022 Melbourne Cup.
“I’ve had a lot to do with Ciaron’s stable and a lot of his stayers, and she is showing some similar traits as what High Emocean was, you could say,” Coffey said.
Sent out the $2.70 favourite, Jennivamoose edged out Muktamil by a short neck, with Bold Soul third.
Her next assignment is likely the Group 3 The Archer (2500m) at Flemington on September 13, which carries a ballot exemption into the Melbourne Cup (3200m).
“The race everyone wants to have a throw at is The Archer, so we’ll see where she fits in,” Coffey said.
