New Zealand’s top sprinter Crocetti has been confirmed for next month’s Kia-Quokka (1200m) at Ascot after Trackside NZ/Perth Racing secured the gelding with their slot in the $5 million race.
The four-year-old arrives in Perth with an impressive record of nine wins and three placings from 14 starts, including two Group 1 victories. Crocetti claimed the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas (1600m) and the Sistema Railway (1200m) in January, earning the Champion Sprint Series title and a $300,000 bonus.
Trained by Danny Walker and Arron Tata, Crocetti has become a sensation in New Zealand, winning seven straight races at the start of his career in 2023. Owner and co-breeder Daniel Nakhle is thrilled with the gelding’s success and looks forward to his Perth debut.
“Taking him to Perth for the Quokka is another memorable step along a pretty amazing journey,” said Nakhle.
Crocetti’s last race was a runner-up finish to Alabama Lass in a 1200m sprint on March 8.
Perth Racing CEO James Oldring welcomed the addition of Crocetti to the Kia-Quokka field, noting the growing Kiwi interest in the race.
In Tabtouch futures markets, Crocetti is a $15 chance, while Overpass is the $2.75 favourite to win a hat-trick.
