Two promising young horses have marked themselves as ones to watch following standout first-up successes at Sydney and Melbourne tracks on Monday, with both now eyed for black-type assignments.
At Sandown, Blind Raise ($3.20), prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, created a bold initial showing by securing a decisive 2¼-length triumph in the Happy 50th to Nick and Jamie Gold Handicap (1400m).

The team quickly revealed intentions for the gelding, targeting the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on April 25.
“It was good to see as when they trial up like that at home and then you always want to see them do it on race day,” Busuttin said.
“He’s very calm and I was surprised how calm he was saddling up.”
Sired by Group 1 Victoria Derby and Spring Champion Stakes victor Ace High, Blind Raise has displayed a composed demeanor that distinguishes him.
“He has just been bombproof the whole way through,” Busuttin added, observing that the colt’s relaxed attitude isn’t standard for his type.
Over in Rosehill, Chris Waller introduced yet another talented newcomer in Blitzgal ($2.50), who notched a striking 3¾-length success in the Drinkwise Plate (1400m).
Even with the wide winning margin, Waller feels there’s considerable upside remaining.
“It was a very good display on debut,” Waller said.
“She still did a few things wrong and was wayward in the straight.
She was a little bit keen and wobbled when Zac (Lloyd) asked her to come off heels and accelerate.”
Rider Zac Lloyd was similarly positive, highlighting her sharp early pace and capacity to hold a prominent spot as vital strengths moving forward.
Purchased for $70,000 at the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Blitzgal is the initial victor from dam Tropezina and seems poised for a strong future as she matures.
These two youngsters look set for elevated competition, as their opening efforts indicate potential to influence key upcoming events.
