Dettori escapes serious injury in fall

Frankie Dettori has had a scare ahead of the Royal Ascot meeting, suffering a sore shoulder in a fall before the first race at Yarmouth..

Dettori was aboard the John Gosden-trained Tivoli when he was unseated in the parade ring on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST), a week out from the Royal Ascot meeting.

Tivoli was withdrawn and Dettori, who was holding a shoulder following the incident, did not take up his only other mount aboard Falak in the following race.

“I’ve spoken to Frankie and he’s in good spirits,” Dettori’s agent Ray Cochrane said.

“Nothing’s broken. His shoulder is a bit sore, but otherwise he’s fine.”

Dettori has two booked rides at Kempton on Wednesday evening and four at Newbury on Thursday afternoon.

He is also due to be at Ascot on Wednesday morning to put several of American trainer Wesley Ward’s Royal Ascot hopefuls through their paces.
