Duke Of Arrakis made a strong first impression at Randwick’s Kensington track, storming home for a sharp debut win that suggests bigger things ahead.
The half-brother to 2024 Todman Stakes (1200m) placegetter Shangri La Express, Duke Of Arrakis may be less precocious, but co-trainer Adrian Bott sees major potential.
“He will continue to fill out and he is going to be a much better three-year-old,” Bott said.
Guided by Regan Bayliss, the colt by Written Tycoon settled just off the speed before slicing through late to win the 1150m TAB Handicap at $12 odds.
Bott is confident the youngster will improve with time and distance.
“I think he’s going to be most effective once we can get him to that 1400, 1600-metre range,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kensington specialist Tympanist ended his career with a seventh win — six on this track — in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (2400m).
“He’s done enough for us,” trainer David Payne said. “He is the most beautiful horse… I want him to go to a good home.”
