Robbie Griffiths and his team are looking to keep Enxuto’s winning streak alive when he steps out in the Curragh Handicap (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.
After back-to-back victories at Sandown and a recent win at Flemington, Griffiths admits this race will be a tougher challenge for Enxuto, who has been racing in restricted company. However, he’s keen to test the gelding’s form as he’s racing with plenty of confidence.
“He’s having a crack, and he’s got a great winning culture at the moment,” Griffiths said. “If he’s going to bridge the gap to open company, now’s the time.”
Griffiths is also mindful of Melbourne’s weather, as Enxuto performs better on firm ground than soft. “He’s never been fantastic on wet ground, so we might bypass the winter and look to the late spring or summer,” Griffiths added.
Depending on Saturday’s result, Griffiths is considering future options, including the Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap or the Golden Mile on April 12.
“If he goes well, the natural progression would be the Golden Mile,” Griffiths said.
