Evergreen Berkeley Square resumes in Winter Championship ahead of spring tilt

Berkeley Square returns to action at Flemington on Saturday, kicking off another spring campaign in the Listed VRC-CRV Winter Championship Final (1600m).

The five-year-old has been a model of consistency, missing the placings just three times in his past 13 starts and notching a career highlight in the Ballarat Cup (2000m).

He also placed in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m), Zipping Classic (2400m), and Coongy Cup (2000m) last year.

Trainer Dan O’Sullivan says the gelding has benefitted from a solid spell.

“We’ll look to do what we did last year but with his rating above 100 now… maybe the Heatherlie Handicap, Coongy, and Bendigo and Ballarat Cups again,” he said.

While Saturday’s 1600m may be short of his best, O’Sullivan says he’s returned “very, very well.”

Berkeley Square is a $51 outsider, while Oh Too Good heads the market at $2.80.
