Trainer Toby Edmonds believes the best of Fire Bomber is yet to be seen, but that won’t prevent the gelding from aiming for another victory at Ipswich this Friday.
At his eighth career start, Fire Bomber will contest the $28,000 TAB QTIS 3&4yo Benchmark 68 Handicap over 1350 metres. He seeks his third career win, adding to two placings, and will carry 60 kilograms, a weight his trainer is not concerned about.
“I think he can overcome it,” Edmonds stated. “He’s a big, strong Better Than Ready gelding so I don’t think he’ll have much trouble with the weight. He’s going very well and his runs have been terrific.”
Having been defeated by a combined margin of less than a length in his last two starts at Doomben, Fire Bomber is returning to the track where he has secured both of his previous race victories.
“Back a tad in grade is good but the QTIS money is what we are chasing,” Edmonds added. “He’s a progressive horse and should get through his grades pretty quickly, maybe next prep.”
Edmonds boasts a near 21% winning strike-rate and a 52.8% place-rate at Ipswich from almost 290 runners throughout his solo training career.
In other stable news, the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap winner, Spicy Martini, has rejoined Edmonds’ Gold Coast stable. She completed her first fast gallop on Saturday morning, targeting a potential slot in the Group 1 The Everest in October. Spicy Martini’s race day comeback is scheduled for the Group 2 Concorde Stakes at Randwick on September 5.
