Former trainer Rick Hore-Lacy passes away

Rick Hore-Lacy, who enjoyed a successful training career through which he became a renowned preparer of future star stallions, has died after to a long battle with illness.

Hore-Lacy trained his first Group 1 winner with Foxseal winning the 1985 Brisbane Cup (3200m) before the likes of Clay Hero, Canny Lad, Spartacus, Kenny’s Best Pal, Dash For Cash,Toorak Toff, became stable stars and among them major stallions.

Redoute’s Choice, who beat Testa Rossa in a stirring finish in the 1999 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), was perhaps Hore-Lacy’s most famous Group 1 winner and cemented Hore-Lacy’s reputation as a ‘stallion maker’.

Hore-Lacy spent much of his career training at Caulfield and retired in 2014 having won 20 Group 1 races.
