Champion trainer Chris Waller had considered parting ways with the talented sprinting mare Generosity earlier this year, but on Saturday, she is set to commence another campaign under his guidance.
The six-year-old will make her return in the prestigious $750,000 Group 1 Moir Stakes, a 1000-metre sprint at Sandown.
Generosity was initially slated for Inglis’s Chairman’s Sale in May. However, Waller and the owners, B2B Thoroughbreds, opted against it following serious discussions about a potential trip to Royal Ascot.
This decision followed her disappointing sixth-place finish as a heavily backed favourite in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on Anzac Day. Waller remains content with keeping her in his stable.
“We took her to Adelaide and had no luck and she’s spelled since,” he stated.
“She was that close to going to Royal Ascot and we just pulled the pin.”
“Even after that (Sangster Stakes) she was still OK, but I just thought it’s a long way to go to not be a good thing.”
“She’s come back well, she’s trailed well and she goes good fresh.”
The daughter of Divine Prophet, who completed two trials in Sydney during August, finishing sixth and fifth in both, is aiming for her first Group 1 victory in the Moir Stakes.
This former Western Australian mare has secured six wins from 28 starts. Her most significant victory was the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) when resuming last campaign.
While the Moir Stakes will be her debut run in Melbourne, the $9000 weanling purchase is well-accustomed to racing anti-clockwise, having begun her career in Perth. She competed in her first 22 starts there, earning over $800,000, before being privately acquired by B2B.
Generosity is scheduled for a familiarisation gallop at Sandown on Tuesday morning, alongside other Moir Stakes contenders like Giga Kick and Natural Fling, who are also expected to participate.
