Globe in doubt for Cox Plate after fetlock irritation emerges

Globe’s Cox Plate (2040m) bid is in serious doubt after trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr revealed the gelding is battling a fetlock irritation.

Connections paid a $200,000 late entry fee following his Might And Power (2000m) win at Caulfield, but Racing Victoria vets flagged concerns following a Sleip Test on Monday.

“He had to do a Sleip test yesterday… RV contacted ‘Junior’ and said on half of the Sleip test, the horse wouldn’t pass,” Price told racing.com.

The seven-year-old has been sent to the beach for light work in the hope of easing the issue before Saturday.

Price confirmed vets would re-inspect Globe later in the week but said he won’t hesitate to scratch him.
“If the horse is not right, I’m not going to run him,” he said.

X-rays cleared any bone damage, but Price said the irritation involves soft tissue around the joint capsule.
