The Golden Rose-nominated Sebrenco headlines a trio of runners for the Bartley stable at Newcastle on Wednesday.
Wyong-based trainer Tracey Bartley has accepted with three runners for the metropolitan midweek
program at Newcastle, with a 2021 Golden Rose nominee among them.
Sebrenco will line up in the Ranvet Handicap (1200m) with Jess Taylor taking the ride from barrier seven.
The three-year-old has never finished worse than second in her career thus far and led all the way to win by a length at Wyong last start.
Despite holding a nomination for the Group One Golden Rose, Bartley said the daughter of Sebring will head to the paddock after Wednesday’s race.
“Originally, we were going to turn her out, but we decided to have one more crack at it,” he said.
“She’s had a relatively easy time since she won the other day, she’s all ready to go again.
“It’s a wait and see (regarding the Golden Rose).
“She’s probably got to go and have a break, that’s all.
“She’s a nice filly, a very nice filly.”
Sebrenco won’t be the only runner Wyong-based trainer has in the Ranvet Handicap, with stablemate Mabel drawn to her outside with Mikayla Weir in the saddle.
The daughter of Dream Ahead is another who has built an impressive record through her four-start career and broke her maiden last start at Muswellbrook.
The three-year-old had to weave her way through traffic and caught the leader right on the line to get the win, before unseating Weir shortly after the finishing post.
Bartley said it wasn’t pretty, but Mabel got the job done.
“It wasn’t a good watch at the start of it, but it ended up alright in the end,” he said.
“They ran a faster time than the other two-year old (race) on the same day.
“She’s a really nice filly too.”
The third of Bartley’s runners, Defeat, will take his place in the final event on the card, the XXXX Handicap (1300m).
Defeat is another last start winner for the Bartley stable, swooping around the outside and running away to win by almost three lengths at Wyong.
The six-year-old is also nominated to race at Kembla Grange later in the week, but the Wyong-based trainer said the son of I Am Invincible will line up on Wednesday.
Bartley said Defeat relished getting back on top of the ground last start.
“Everything went right and I think it was getting back on top of the ground,” he said.
“It was pretty heavy at Goulburn and he hasn’t struck a dry track this prep apart from the other day.
“He raced really well, he should train on from that.
“He’s right up to that, for sure. If he gets any sort of luck, he should be very hard to beat.”
