Gollan doubles Royal Ascot firepower with Brindavan buy

Tony Gollan’s presence at Royal Ascot just became more significant after teaming up with First Light Racing to secure Brindavan at the Goffs London Sale.

Queensland’s leading trainer picked up the Belardo gelding for £250,000 (AU $521,000), boosting his Royal Ascot runner count from one to two.

Brindavan, a last-start Ascot winner, is set to line up in Saturday’s 2012m Golden Gates Stakes before heading to Gollan’s Eagle Farm base.

He joins the George Boughey-trained colt Hey Tru Blue, who will run in Thursday’s Group 2 Norfolk Stakes (1006m) and is also set to join Gollan.

“Team FIRST are thrilled to add their second Royal Ascot runner in the exciting last start winner Brindavan,” First Light Racing said.

Gollan flew to London following the Stradbroke Handicap and is now expected to remain for Saturday’s meet.

Other Aussies also made moves at the sale, including Tim Porter, and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, who bought multiple prospects with eyes on upcoming features.
