The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding has drawn barrier 24 in a full field of 20 plus four emergencies, adding another challenge as he attempts to shoulder 61kg, which is eight kilos above the minimum.
No runner has prevailed with a comparable load since Monton carried 58kg to victory in 2011.
Despite the draw, Gringotts remains a $3.80 elect after dominant mile wins with similar weights in the Big Dance and The Gong.
His presence both helps and hinders rivals, including defending champion Robusto, who drops to 54kg after carrying 59.5kg in the Festival Stakes.
“The best part about him (Gringotts) being there is he’s pushing the weights down a little bit,” Luke Hilton said.
Robusto draws barrier six, while stablemate Amor Victorious starts from gate three but needs firmer ground to show his best.
