Race 1
4 – 3 – 6 – 1
NETTOYER created a huge impression last campaign when she won a 3yo race at Randwick by ten lengths and she looks to have come back in good order with two solid efforts including a closing last start fourth last Saturday in the group 3 Guy Walter Stakes behind Dixie Blossoms. She just needs a touch of luck early and she will be hard to beat. Karavali was good first up and gets gate one today while The Pinnacle has turned in two good efforts this time in and is sure to appreciate coming back against the girls here.
Race 2
3 – 6 – 4 – 1
It looks an ideal race for the Queenslander HOUTZEN who resumes here off a four month break and very smart barrier trial at Randwick albeit on a heavy surface. She looks to take control from the jump and if she gets a comfortable time on-pace she will take a stack of running down. The main danger is obviously I Am Excited who resumed a fortnight ago and was very strong late when winning the Spark Of Life. She looks to get a soft run so she should be coming hard late.
Race 3
2 – 1 – 3 – 5
ESTIJAAB was very good winning on debut before turned in a herculean performance when second to Sunlight after being served up a stack of pressure throughout the race. All being fair she will roll and just win but I couldn’t take the $1.35 simply because of the gut-buster she had last start and being only a 2yo filly. That said I hope she wins as she is a player in the Golden Slipper. Outback Barbie is a clear pick from the Tony Gollan stable that turns up here off a nice barrier trial at the Gold Coast.
Race 4
2 – 1 – 6 – 7
PERFORMER is two from two and is regarded as a Golden Slipper player and if that is the case he needs to win today and win with authority. From talking to Chris Waller about him you get the feeling he’s a bit of a dude that just does what he needs to do and will continue to improve. His big threat today is Ef Troop the Queenslander who looks like he will jump and run today and may just be hard to get past. He’s only been beaten once that came in the Magic Millions when he went a million miles an hour up front. If he rolls at a nice tempo today Performer will have to be on his game to run him down.
Race 5
1 – 9 – 6 – 2
REDZEL is the benchmark of sprinters in the country and is hard to beat but I think he short odds at $1.5. For the simple fact I have a huge opinion of Viridine who is ready to explode today. Redzel should tag the speed with Super Too expected to lead from Jungle Edge perhaps and will look the winner at about the furlong and may well just keep going. Viridine is first up but from reports has done very well in the Godolphin operation and looked good in the barrier trial on February 12th. English is a better mare in the autumn and is looking to win for the fourth year in a row on the corresponding meeting.
Race 6
2 – 7 – 6 – 1
It’s a good race but very tricky race and it looks the one that gets the favours will be hard to beat. I thought CLEARLY INNOCENT was very good first up when luck eluded him at the 300m and from all reports for the Kris Lees stable he done terrific since. Global Glamour gets the blinkers and will be rolling on-pace and could easily pinch a break and be hard to get past. Invincible Gem is a quality mare and is ready to take that next step this time around. She has looked well in her lead in barrier trials. I haven’t even mentioned Endless Drama, Foxplay or Happy Clapper so good luck whichever way you go.
Race 7
3 – 10 – 2 – 12
KEMENTARI has been very good this campaign with two dominant wins and from an ideal barrier today he looks very hard to beat. The mile is apparently a query and maybe so but I think the soft draw will allow him a soft run. D’Argento was awesome first up when charging from the back in Hobartville Stakes and is sure to be coming hard again today but the wide barrier has made things that little bit more difficult. Trapeze Artist can bounce back here as he is better than what he showed last start so don’t be surprised. Kaonic gets the blinkers and yes he has to improve sharply but if he happened to be switched on he is certainly a quality animal.
Race 8
9 – 1 – 7 – 4
Keen here on SUGAR BELLA who returns off an eight week break but she has had a nice blow out in a recent barrier trial. There isn’t a lot of speed so I am just hoping she can settle a tough closer and then use her turn of speed with the light weight. Ravi is first up and she has a very good fresh record and has looked very good in her lead in barrier trials. She is giving away a bit of weight but she is all class. Slow Burn is drawn wide but with no real leaders she could cruise across and if she gets there with no petrol spent she will be there for a long way.
Race 9
8 – 3 – 12 – 7
This race originally was full of speed but after scratching it looks as though Singing will lead solo here and you can expect a sharp improvement from here so don’t be surprised if he gets the chocolates. ALWARD had no luck first up when didn’t see clear room in the straight which showed he has returned in good order and looks the one to beat today. Emperor’s Way could easily roll forward a bit and it’s hard to knock his form having won four of his past five starts. Liapari is a player but would have been suited with a genuine speed while Carzoff could easily bob up from the soft draw.
