Jockey Harry Coffey has received the green light to partner Shockletz in the Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington.
Coffey had been in doubt for Tuesday’s major race after sustaining a collarbone injury when Pondalowie had a fall during the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The rider was taken to hospital for imaging and evaluation of a suspected collarbone fracture, later undergoing a surgical procedure on Sunday.
Coffey was subsequently cleared by his surgeon and Racing Victoria Chief Medical Officer Dr Ben Barresi to proceed with his scheduled rides on Tuesday.
In addition to Shockletz in the Melbourne Cup, Coffey is booked for three earlier races on the Melbourne Cup Day schedule and three rides on the VRC Oaks Day program at Flemington on Thursday.
Earlier on Thursday, Racing Victoria announced that all 24 horses accepted for the Melbourne Cup had successfully passed their final veterinary inspections on Monday, receiving the go-ahead to compete.
