A year after finishing second in the Easter Cup, Jennilala returns to Caulfield for the Victoria Handicap (1400m), aiming for her second win with trainer Gavin Bedggood.
Her first-up victory for Bedggood came in the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 8, and Bedggood has set his sights on the Group 2 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on April 26 for the mare.
“She’s fresh enough to run really well over 1400 metres,” Bedggood said, after Jennilala spent a week in the paddock following her recent win.
Bedggood also acknowledged the competition, saying Jennilala had likely beaten “B grade” mares in her last start, and sees Saturday’s race as a solid preparation for Adelaide.
Owned in the same interests as Horse of the Year Pride Of Jenni, Jennilala may still have her best ahead of her. Bedggood described her as “the kindest mare, the soundest mare we’ve got.”
Craig Newitt, who rode Jennilala to victory in the Matron Stakes, will take the reins again on Saturday.
