Juvenile filly Just A Journey is now being considered for a winter carnival campaign following her second consecutive win at Randwick’s Kensington track.
Trained by Golden Slipper-winning Michael Freedman, Just A Journey broke her maiden at Kembla Grange before stepping up to metropolitan grade on Wednesday, leading throughout to win. The daughter of Justify holds entries for the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on May 31 and the JJ Atkins (1600m) two weeks later, both at Eagle Farm. Stable representative Ben Duckworth confirmed Freedman is considering a trip to Queensland.
“We will have to have a look and wait and see how she pulls up but Queensland is obviously an option,” Duckworth said.
Ridden by Tommy Berry, Just A Journey ($7) led comfortably, holding off Jenni Gone Bonkers ($11) by 1-1/2 lengths, with Ripley ($4.60 fav) finishing third. Berry was initially concerned about her barrier manners but was impressed with her performance once she found the front.
In other juvenile news, debutante Burn The Sky, trained by John O’Shea and Tom Charlton, surprised with a victory in the Broadsiding @ Darley Handicap (1400m). Charlton was pleased with her debut, noting that the heavy conditions weren’t ideal but the filly passed her first big test.
