Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising has touched down in Sydney and is already firming as the horse to beat in the $20 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 18.
Trainer David Hayes said the gelding lost around 10 kilograms on the flight but had quickly bounced back.
“He’s in great order. He’s got some new shoes on, he’s settled in and he’s enjoying having a pick of the grass outside his stable,” Hayes said. “I’m not concerned about his weight. He is carrying terrific condition.”
The winner of 14 of his 16 starts, including his past 13 in succession, Ka Ying Rising will trial at Randwick on October 7, with Hayes to supervise in person.
“That’s a very important day for him … we will certainly let him increase the last 200 metres in the trial to stretch his legs out,” he said.
Hayes praised rivals Joliestar and Lady Shenandoah but insisted Ka Ying Rising remains the Everest’s top seed.
