Chris Waller will unveil a powerful team in Saturday’s Winx Stakes, but three-time Group 1 winner Lady Shenandoah is set to be a notable absentee.
The mare, unbeaten in her past five starts, is expected to skip the $1 million Randwick feature in favour of a sprinting preparation.
“We haven’t made the final decision, but I think we are going to go down a sprinting path because we are so top-heavy (in middle-distance races),” Waller said after her Rosehill workout.
Her resume includes the Flight Stakes (1600m), Surround Stakes (1400m) and Coolmore Classic (1500m). But Waller is eyeing the Group 3 Concorde Stakes at Randwick on September 6 as her likely return.
That could lead to major targets including the $20m The Everest and $10m Golden Eagle, where she sits high in early betting markets.
