Let’s Fly launches Oaks bid with dominant Randwick win

Let’s Fly may earn a late shot at the Queensland Oaks (2200m) after a commanding victory at Randwick has connections seriously weighing a $3600 nomination.

The Richard and Will Freedman-trained filly ($31) raced on the pace before surging clear in the Chalouhi Handicap (1800m), thrashing her rivals by 5-3/4 lengths.

“She has beaten them like a good thing,” Will Freedman said.

Despite not entering her for the Oaks initially, Freedman said they’ll decide in the coming week whether to head to Brisbane.

“She has come to hand a lot quicker than I thought,” he said. “Her half-sister… won over 2800 and 3200.”

Let’s Fly had genuine excuses in her previous runs and relished the heavy going on the seven-day back-up.

Runner-up She’s A Dealer ($10) also remains in Oaks calculations, with trainer Roger James saying, “She’s a high-class filly… we will prepare her here and head up Wednesday night before the Oaks.”

Connections can opt for a $15,300 final nomination fee by June 3 if needed.
